WC Responds to Crisis

Days after the earthquake, we continue to see the reports of the chaos that has gripped Port-au-Prince and the surrounding areas in Haiti; and yet we also see the selfless response of many being the hands and feet of Christ to the broken and hurting and forlorn as estimates of potential death toll range up to 200,000.

White's Chapel is currently responding to the tragedy through the following initiatives:

Donate to a designated WC Haiti Relief fund:
You can donate on-line, by check, or by giving kiosk, just please note on the offering that it is for the Haiti Relief Effort. The Mission Advisory Team is diligently researching organizations through which 100% of our funds will go directly to the relief effort. Our intent is to have a relationship with an on-site organization and be able to see and hear what our contributions are doing on the ground. Our February Communion Offering will be designated for this cause. For more information, please contact Rev. Marilyn Zemba

Participate in preparing Health Kits:
In response to the horrifying devastation and chaos in Haiti, White’s Chapel, is preparing health kits to the survivors of the earthquake. The health kits will consist of supplies that provide basic necessities to the people of Haiti.
There are specific items needed to complete the health kits are:

  • Hand towels (15" x 25" up to 17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
  • Washcloths
  • Combs (large and sturdy, not pocket-sized)
  • Nail files or fingernail clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
  • Bath-size bars of soap (3 oz. and up)
  • Toothbrushes (single brushes only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
  • 6-Adhesive plastic strip sterile bandages
  • Gallon Ziploc bags to seal items

ALL ITEMS MUST BE NEW!

You can donate any of these items in bulk, individually, or prepare your own health kit and bring it to the church.

During the month of February there will be a donation box in Wesley Hall.

We will also need help compiling these kits the weekend of February 20th. Look for more details to follow on our website.

Further, you will find a prayer for Haiti below; it is our most profound hope that we will gather around this current brokenness and crisis to pray for and give to the people that Jesus called "the least of these."

"O God of mercy and grace, we lift the people, the country and all of your creation in Haiti into your tender hands. May your healing presence be felt and seen in the midst of the emergency efforts. Comfort those who have lost loved ones, those who have lost homes, and those who have lost hope. Our tears and prayers embrace those that are grieving, and we pray that You will uphold those who suffer and unite us as one in recovery, love, and mercy. Amen."
